Worship is…

Worship is catching our breath in the busyness of living. It is that moment when we pause and reflect and remember who we are and whose we are. We need selah moments [moments to stop and listen] in our lives daily.  (umcdiscipleship.org/worship)

Each Sunday morning, we gather together at 9am to worship God, who is Creator, Redeemer and the One who Sustains. For those who cannot attend in person, we livestream to our Facebook page: Facebook.com/GUMCMesa and prior services can be found on our Youtube channel: Youtube.com/@GraceUMCMesa

Our services are always based in Scriptures as we seek to understand the depth of God’s love for us while embracing God’s call on our lives to love God, love our neighbors and love ourselves.

Through hymns and worship songs, responsive readings, musical acclamations of praise, and presenting our gifts of time, talents and treasure, we offer ourselves to God. Scriptures are read and interpreted by the preacher, and the choirs and other musicians offer their gifts in praise.

Worship is a foundation of Christian life and community. In privacy and in gathered community, we express our love and praise to God, confess our sin, receive God’s grace in forgiveness, hear God’s truth proclaimed, and respond with a deeper commitment. Worship reminds us of who and whose we are.

How We Worship

At Grace, our weekly worship experiences are offered so that we may each experience God anew.

Scripture

We regularly explore how the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments apply to our daily living, and offer to God our prayers, our gifts, our service and our witness.

Music

We combine traditional hymns with contemporary praise songs in congregational singing and choral anthems, and are often blessed as soloists and ensembles present their musical offerings to enhance our worship.

Offering

We invite worshippers to make an offering, a financial contribution, to support the ministry of the church. Our offerings are given in gratitude for God’s gracious love while trusting in God’s provision for our own needs.

Everyone is Welcome

At Grace, we believe that God is calling us to be a beacon of Christ’s love, engaging with our neighbors and creating an atmosphere of inclusiveness, acceptance, and joy. All people are welcome here. And all means all!

Everyone is welcome in worship. Haven’t attended church since you were a child? You’re welcome here! New to the area? You’re welcome here! Looking for a place to belong? You’re welcome here! Here for a visit, or for a season? You’re welcome here!

Children of all ages are welcome in worship, regardless of fussiness or noisiness. Parents may choose to take a fussy child out of the sanctuary, but may equally choose to remain in place. A nursery for children up to age 3 is available if the parent prefers to have their youngest cared for. An usher will assist parents wishing to use the nursery.

Persons of all abilities are welcome. We have spaces in both the front and the back of the sanctuary for wheelchair seating, and assistance is available at every level of the service. Assistive Hearing Devices are available for those who need them.

Sacraments

Sacraments are sacred moments that Jesus gave us by clear instruction and example in the scripture. Sacraments involve our physical senses through outward and visible signs; in addition, they involve our spiritual senses through an inward and spiritual work of grace.

The United Methodist Church participates in two sacraments through which Christ is re-presented or becomes present to us anew. These are Baptism and Holy Communion. Click on the images below to learn more.
