In 2017, Grace UMC started our Cooking School offering a time of fellowship and learning around  nutritious food.  Classes are held on the first Friday of the Month at 6:30 p.m. in the Church Kitchen, at Grace UMC, 2024 E. University Dr., Mesa.  Everyone is welcome, and students are encouraged to bring some of the ingredients for the evening’s session, or make a cash donation so this activity remains self-supporting.

Our cooks report enjoying:

  • Learning new skills
  • Cooking more nuritiously and making healthy choices
  • Trying new spices and flavors
  • Practicing new techniques
  • Learning helpful hints to save time and money,
  • Getting to know people new to our Church family

But most of all, those who attend enjoy being together.  Each session gives cooks copies of recipes to take home and lots of opportunity not only to make a recipe, but to taste the final creation, and take some home to their families, when we have extra. Participants give input as to what topics or recipes they want to learn about, and many of the participants have become our “guest Chef” teaching a session on their specialty.

Several times during the year we cook for church activities, such as Vacation Bible School and the Annual UMW Christmas Festival, or people with special food needs due to health issues.
